It’s surprising how few women are actually in politics, but at the same time it’s really not. When thinking of politics the majority of Americans think of men in suits; or a bunch of old men wearing white wigs sitting in a room together. Very few people think of women when they first think of politics. In reality, while there are more women in politics than there used to be, it is still predominately male. There are quite a few speculations on why this is, this is what this article “Women Are Underrepresented In Politics, But It's Not For The Reason You Think” talks about. This article starts off by saying that a lot of people believe that women don’t get into politics because of their family, and how that is not correct.
Now, for me personally I never really factored in the family reason as to why more women don’t run for politics. For me it was more that women are a minority in this country. Yes, we now have the same rights as men but it took us years and years to get the same rights, and that leaves a lot of people thinking that women aren’t capable of running a country or really doing anything in politics. For me, I don’t think that women who do most of the household work, or taking of children are any less qualified than men who are in the same situation. I think most people believe these things simply because they were raised in such a way that makes it hard for them to see a women in a place of power. Which I do not agree with, I believe that women should be able to have any career that they want.
