Project Proposal
For my LINK Internship I will be working alongside my mentor Amy Tichy Smith in her job as a physical therapist at Mercy Regional Physical Therapy. Amy Tichy Smith has a master’s in physical therapy along with being certified in Spinal Manipulation. Mercy Regional Physical Therapy is dedicated to becoming a center of excellence along with other things as stated in their mission statement. “Mercy Integrated Physical Therapy is dedicated to enhancing our position as a regional center of excellence in physical therapy evaluation and treatment. We will continue to provide the highest quality of care and customer service.”
I want to do an internship here because I want to become a physical therapist and I believe that doing an internship here will give me a better understanding of what goes into being a physical therapist and whether this job is right for me or not.
My project during my LINK internship will be to bring awareness to posture problems that can lead to back pain in the long run by creating a pamphlet, brochure, or a power point. Along with bringing awareness to posture problems, I will be advising on how to rectify the posture problems to relieve back pain.
Within this project I expect that I will learn more about the human body, including the general placement of nerves, muscles, and bones. I also expect that I will learn new methods to relieve pain in everyday life along with long term pain that can be experienced.
Some of the problems I anticipate while working in my internship is not understanding what is going on during the job. I may not understand some of the technical terms used, or why they are using these procedures while working with patients. To overcome these problems I will be sure to ask plenty of questions when I do not understand something and I will take notes so that I can recall these terms and procedures at a later date.
I am very excited for my LINK internship because I will be doing something I believe I will enjoy immensely.
